Where is Manitou Springs?
Manitou Springs is located four miles west of Colorado Springs. From Interstate 25, take Exit 141. To reach Manitou Springs from the airport, take Powers Boulevard north to Fountain Boulevard. Turn West on Fountain to reach I-25 North. Again, take Exit 141 for Highway 24 West to Manitou Springs.

What recreation facilities and activities does Manitou Springs offer?
Manitou Springs offers a variety of outdoor activities, from hiking to mountain biking, fishing, and more. There are more than15 hiking trails within a 15-minute vicinity. Manitou is also home to the Cog Railway, which will take you to the top of our local fourteener, Pikes Peak. If you are up for a challenge, you can hike the Manitou Incline, which is a one-mile hike that gains more than 2,000 feet in elevation.

This community also has an indoor pool, eclectic arcade and historic spa building.

Manitou Springs offers a variety of homes, including single family homes, townhomes and condos. There are many distinct neighborhoods in the area, and some of the homes date back to the 1800s.
What school district is Manitou Springs located in?
Students are served by Manitou Springs School District 14 and Manitou Springs High School. Manitou Springs School District 14 serves approximately 1510 students from pre-kindergarten to grade 12. They offer a “small town” educational environment and are driven by “Relationships, Rigor and Opportunity”. In addition to a challenging academic curriculum, all of the schools offer comprehensive art, physical education, music, computer technology, special education, and gifted and talented instruction. The class sizes in the elementary schools typically range from 18-25 students. Average middle school size is 24 students, and average high school class size is 22 students.

What utilities are available in Manitou Springs?

Trash Bestway Disposal is the current provider for trash and recycling. Currently, Manitou has a single hauler trash program.

What fire protection is available in Manitou Springs?
The Manitou Springs Volunteer Fire Department station was built in 1965. It is located on the main avenue at 620 Manitou Avenue. The department has 2 class A pumpers, one brush truck and two antiques trucks.

What public transportation is available in this area?
Greyhound Bus – The Greyhound terminal is two blocks from the metro bus terminal.
Metro Bus – From the metro bus terminal, located in downtown Colorado Springs, you need bus #3 to Manitou (please note, this does NOT run on Sunday). This is the only bus which will take you all the way to Manitou Springs. The stops are located every few blocks along Colorado and Manitou Avenues, look for the purple colored “Metro” signs. Get off the bus at the corner of Manitou Ave./Ruxton Ave.

What is the weather like in Manitou Springs?
Manitou Springs averages over 250 days of sunshine per year. The climate is mild with very low humidity. Typically the coldest months are January and February and the hottest is July. Snowstorms are followed by sunshine, which means the snow melts immediately. Manitou also has “chinook winds” (that means “snow eater” in Eskimo) in the winter and spring that can take our temperature up to 60 degrees instantly.  


Winter (Dec. 22 – March 20) Average snowfall: 5 inches per month. Average high temperatures: 44-50 degrees  


Spring (March 21 – June 21) March can be the snowiest month with a 9.9 inch average, followed by April with 6.7 inches. Average high temperatures: March – 49 degrees, April – 60 degrees, May – 65 degrees, June – 70 degrees.  


Summer (June 22 – September 23) Warm mornings with afternoon rain showers. Average high temperatures: July – 85 degrees, August – 82 degrees, September – 70 degrees.


Fall (September 24 – December 21) Warm days, cool and crisp evenings. Average snowfall 5.4 inches in November. Average high temperatures – 44-66 degrees.
